Cardiff born artist SYBIL ADELAJA specialises in world music-infused reggae and striking paintings and illustrations. Sybil’s first studio sessions were in London with her uncle, John Lynch (producer of Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott) where she gradually built confidence in writing lyrics and gained valuable experience recording vocals. Sybil’s recording career was halted through poor #mentalhealth, during which time she sought regular treatment in hospital for a number of years. However, despite the uncertainty, Sybil continued to channel her energy into positive and productive means: music and art. This creative outlet proved extremely valuable to Sybil, as it gave her deepest self a voice and the opportunity to display her truths, in spite of the pain and hurt she was enduring. “I was able to see the good side of things, and I was able to get stronger by focussing on the light”. Sybil Adelaja’s debut EP, “This Is It”, is the culmination of Sybil’s views and experiences of culture, dance music and forthright soul, as well as her pains of being in hospital. It depicts life from a unique vantage point, and the project intends to serve as redemption from the depths of unwellness into the sweeping vista ahead. “It’s been a real hard struggle trying to keep up with everything, but I won’t give up because I know something good is going to happen”. The album artwork is taken from a collection of works designed by Sybil.
